Wondering why the standard business advice for growing your company isn’t working for you?
In today’s podcast, our guest Monika Schneider with Your Own Marketing discusses how in order to grow a business and make it sustainable, “people really need to discover their OWN way of building a business.” She also emphasizes that there is no one single approach that can be applied to all.
With many years of experience in academia and the international business environment, Monika has established herself in the corporate world as a writer, researcher and more recently as a business coach for real estate professionals. Her mission is to offer self-employed professionals guidance on how to make their business successful in the way they envision it to be.
Monika finds that her company and its services are extremely applicable to the real estate profession. “The real estate industry consists of people from all different career backgrounds, has no long term education requirements and literally no set of rules or guidelines on how to make your business work,” Monika explains. “This unfortunately leaves it up to the individual and how they handle their skills in this business,” Monika says.
Monika explains that while larger companies usually have a well established system in place for achieving their goals, when a business is based on self employment, run by one person, that individual tends to look to others in the hope of finding that one perfect approach that will guarantee their success. “That’s like insisting that there is only one equation in math to get a certain result, and obviously this is not true,” underscores Monika.
Since there is no single formula that guarantees success, how do you achieve it?
Monika makes note of some common advice that we often hear; “know yourself, be yourself or do what makes your heart sing.” While it sounds good, Monika notes that no one really knows what to do with this advice because there are no practical guidelines for carrying it out.
This is where Monika comes in. Her passion lies in coaching people into the knowledge of who they are and how they can build a successful business from scratch by following their own guidelines, not the ones the world lays out for them.
3 Things You Absolutely Must Know to Grow Your Real Estate Business
As Monika mentioned, there is no one size fits all approach to creating and growing a successful business. For example, Monika points out that not every client is here for you to serve just as not every social media technique benefits every real estate agent. You will need to find what works best for you. To help you get started, Monika recommends exploring these 3 important strategies for finding what will work best for you in your business.
#1. Know Yourself
Knowing your strengths and weaknesses are very important in determining what sort of marketing strategy you might utilize in order to attract new clients. An example Monika gives is that if you are an introvert, you may not be someone who speaks openly in public to others, however, you may be more well suited to marketing yourself through an e-mail or your Facebook page.
#2. Know Your Clients
If you know yourself, you can know what type of clients you would like to work with. Monika says this contradicts what society teaches us which is that quantity is what counts over quality. Monika believes however that it is a mistake to believe in this ideology when you want to be successful. She says “that it is the quality with which you in the end increase your clients.”
#3. Know Your Value
Monika says many of her clients come to her underestimating their capabilities and true potential. She says that if you are aware of your true value and what you have the ability to accomplish, you can get more specific about what properties you want to sell.
